Swami Nity Hits Berkeley
File under: Satsang Report
In another stunning failure due to our addiction to the worldwide scourge of celebrity gossip, we completely missed this satsang report filed by ex-Muktananada disciple Stuart Resnick on SYDA guru Gurumayi's long-exiled brother, Swami Nityananda:
Nity sat up on throne in his swami costume and all, but there was only a shadow of the "we're in the presence of the Supreme Lord, Omygawd!" atmosphere that there was in Baba's day. I wonder how much of the difference was external and how much was the change in my own perception. In any case, all the talk etc was about how cool and great Baba was; it doesn't seem that Nity is encouraging that much glorification of himself. But could he still be a repudiating-cultivating space-daddy like the just-a-letter-h-away Nithyananda? Maybe:
Nity's talk was kind of nice-sounding empty spiritual stuff. He did start out by quoting some scripture about how it's impossible to achieve the natural state without the guru's grace. Told a story about greatness of guru's grace. It was all kind of silly and meaningless. What does this have to do with real life? It's just something to make you feel good for a while when you think about it. And I think that's what people were looking for. That sounds like some big-time maneuvering to us, in a you-can't-do-it-without-the-likes-of-me kinda way. That's S.O.P and right out of the big-time guru's playbook.
But at least Nity didn't ham it up as much as his satellite TV-transmitting sister did back in the day.

This Nityananda spells his name without the 'h'. You should correct your blog entries to avoid confusion.
How many people showed up for that satsang Stuart?
Jr. does not offer full public disclosure on his guru's (Muktananda's) very sorted past. Jr. and other Muktananda spinoffs are still pushing the myths and chanting the name. Their cash flow is directly linked to the continued myths.
They've all had decades to get real and offer full public disclosure. To date, none of them have clearly spoken out in a public format to educate the public.

Done. Thanks for bring this to my attention.

I'm very bad at estimating crowds. In my report, I guessed 150.

You probably mean "sordid." I'm not sure that Mukt did that much sorting.
Here's the thing, and it's the heart of the matter as far as I'm concerned. In all these meditation or spiritual groups, we talk about Dharma or Truth. Dharma is not different from our ordinary, everyday definition of Truth: the sky is blue, the grass is green, sugar is sweet, etc.
Sometimes, people in these groups believe that they're pursuing some special, separate, higher Truth that's unconnected to the simple, everyday Truth that's in front of us. And that's where the bullshit starts.
Which is to say: yeah, Nity Jr and other Mukt spin-offs are dishonest or at least negligent when they completely ignore the Mukt scandals (boinking underaged girls with questionable consent; using lies and physical intimidation to cover it up). And yeah, one must wonder how much this is connected to their cash flow being dependent on mythologizing Mukt's life.
I find Truth more interesting than fiction. Why not just be honest and open about what really took place, rather than making up stories? The sugar-coated stories that the successor guru's tell about Mukt's life reveal the ideas that these gurus want to propogate. Instead, why not courageously look at the way things really are, and be open to learning whatever lessons actual experience (not mere ideas) has to teach us?

I believe SY, Muktananda, Gurumayi and spinoffs have attempted to do PLENTY of "sorting" of Muktananda's history.
----------
1)To put in a certain place or rank according to kind, class, or nature "sort apples" "sort mail" b: to arrange according to characteristics : classify
----------
SY and spinoffs' version of Muktananda:
A saint, a god realized being (sorting out), and if push came to shove, sorting in to a different folder the "public" Muktananda vs. the "secret life" (not anymore) Muktananda
------------
2)To join or associate with others especially of the same kind "sort with thieves"
2b) Agree, harmonize "his benign view sorts badly with reality"
----------
The above speaks for itself and SY's, Muktananda's, Gurumayi's, and other spinnoffs' behaviors, and choice to try to "explain Muktananda's life all away, or NEVER mention this "sorted history" in the first place.

Thank you for adding this addendum to your original report of visiting Jr. "Clarity" of the addendum fills out the picture and lets the public know that these people (Jr. included) have never publicly told the truth about Muktananda. They continue to publicly "spin the web of deceit" in regard to Muktananda.
Thank you, Stuart, for this addendum.
Really, thank you.
For info on the past history of Muktananda's and Gurumayi's group, here's some input from former members posted on the old (1997) leaving SY site.
Fascinating reading here, especially when you scroll down and read what reportedly occurred when persons working their butts off doing seva-service were referred to therapists and health care providers who themselves were devotees.

This is a good supplement to what is being reported on Marta Szzabo's blog

For info on various other things devotees did in service to this group, go to Chapter 21 and then read in the comments section what different folks describe taking through customs to serve their gurus.
The bliss generated appears to have come from a very soiled source, no matter how good it made folks feel to get that buzz.
Cocaine makes people feel marvellous, too--and leads them to do things they never would have done prior to getting hooked on that buzz.
For comparison read the rap lyrics 'White Lines' by Master Melly and see the comaprisons to shakti.

There is one more Nithyananda in
Los Angeles. Now he became very popular in US.
Three years back, he attracted one
person called siva in Oklahoma. Siva purchased lands around dhayanapeetham, bangalore, india for
very cheaper rates and then started marketing nithyananda in US. First swamiji and siva bluffed
the oklahoma devotees that with swamiji's
healing powers, swamiji cured his
wife's health problems. Oklahoma devotees believed this. With the help of Oklahoma devotees Siva started marketing swamiji accross the US. Siva and swamiji attracted
a millionore doctor couple in LA. With their help Siva established ashram in LA. In last three years
swamiji became popular and Siva able to sell his lands around dhyanapeetham, bangalore for very high rate. Swamiji got name and fame. Siva got Huge money, name and fame. It is win-win situation. I heard that lot of Indian gurus are following same path.
