An "American Guru's" Sleazy Steering

File under: Gurubusting and The Siddhi of PR

It is being alleged that Andrew Cohen is using sleazy SEO tactics to divert folks from William Yenner's American Guru page.

Excuse us for a sec so we can suddenly fall out of our chair in disbelief.

I've talked about this on my own blog, but have you discussed the various connections between Andrew Cohen and more "respected" Buddhist luminaries such as Genpo Roshi (as well as their links to Fred Lenz)? In the Buddhist world, many are unaware of just how intertwined some of these folks are.

You pick up news from already existing news sites. Do you do anything investigative on your own ? Or always cut and paste? Because of your foul language people who cant use such language elsewhere come here. But that does not make you original anyways and you are just a rotten fake....

Apropos Nerdy's comments ,

Thank God for the foul language allowed here. To express our outrage that is the best. Mark Twain had something really remarkable to say about the use of foul language.

For Jody to "do anything investigative on.... own " there must be many more sickening unheard of cults.

You really want them to exist or wish rather not ?

Perhaps some of the criticism is hitting home, at last and Cohen is feeling a bit beleaguered.

Cohen also has put his ashram up for sale ($9mill) You know, the one he paid for ($2.5mill)using an inheritance manipulated from a less than willing disciple.

Cohen's Boston Center of Enlightennext also closed, I believe. And he's been begging for donations for the magazine as well, so perhaps the cash flow problem has finally caught up with him.

It's funny that gurus promote themselves as Special People and God's Gift to Humankind, then when the picture is balanced out with previously hidden facts, the guru and his disciples complain that the whistleblowers are painting an unbalanced picture. It seems to me that the whistleblowers are balancing out a previously unbalanced portrait.

On his website, Andrew Cohen promotes himself as:

"21st century spiritual teacher and pioneer of evolutionary enlightenment".

That sounds much better than:

"21st century spiritual teacher and pioneer of evolutionary enlightenment who slaps disciples, humiliates disciples, and dunks disciples in cold lakes."

Jody with remarkable perspicaciousness had detected much much earlier their actual hidden motives spurring them on to establishing moksha/ enlightenment purveying opulent empires.

When someone asked Ramana Bhagavan:-

" Don't you think an awakened person should set about speedily waking up all those dreaming or asleep...?"

Bhagavan said :-

" Not necessarily. When he wakes up , he is going to realize it was all a dream.".

Ramana Bhagavan in another context also says (paraphrasing):-

" Those with idle curiosity , surface grazers , pedantic social reformers , voluble theologians besotted with verbiage & their oratorial skills OUGHT NOT to even come near a Jeevan Muktha , irritating Him unnecessarily ".

Those fortunate few with no pre conceived grand ideas but desperately seeking Peace benefitted immensely by coming to Ramana Bhagavan than many locals in India.

Irrelevent comment above by a nerd.

Should you manage to come up with his quote or even a voluble book of your brainfarts , do NOT hasten to flatter yourself imagining I would mollify you -fulminating nerd ,with ' yourockman , hatsofftoyouman' yadayada.

Indian jingoistic detractors are such odiously stultifying but hiiiigghhhhhly qualified cretins.

Most often IITians , IIMians.

No surprises there if the alleged "philanthropist" rajiv malhotra has been able to moonlight from Princeton University.

What happened to the blog archive where one could read previous blog posts (in the right side column)? It does not seem to be there any more.

Every day we use our bodies. They get dirty, so every day we take a shower, and bring our bodies back to their original clean state, so we can continue using them the next day.

Any meditation practice can be viewed the same way. In the course of using our minds, we accummulate desires and attachments etc. So day by day, moment to moment, we practice giving that all up and returning to just-now clarity.

Even after years of taking showers, it's possible that one day you fall into a delusion: "I've taken so many showers, and taken them so well, that now I've achieved perfect, permanent cleanliness. Now I can rest on my laurels, for I have no need to keep showering."

This seems to be the mind of Cohen, Genpo, Lenz, and the like. Rather than teaching moment to moment return to simple clarity and compassion... they fall into the belief that they've gotten some special state that puts them above ordinary people. If you read their teaching, it's almost always dripping with this delusion.

You're right, if occasional profanity for the purpose of emphasis offends you, you should probably have your parents read out the contents of these stories and spell out the cusswords.

Grow up, if you think the occasional swear is worse than exploitation, sexual abuse, brainwashing, and thievery that is exposed by your site, perhaps you should keep out of these matters. You're a manchild/womanchild, and belong under some sort of thought control cult where you never have a need to hear any contrary words.
