As an antidote to all the depressing reports about greedy and grandiose godmen, all running amok on the truth like immigrants in France on a burning car; we offer the cool, clear water of the words of Adyashanti. Were only more gurus like him, we'd actually see some folks really understanding what they all purport to be teaching us:
Selling Water by the RiverAs we like to say: spiritual experiences have as much to do with our truth as the Self as our dog's ass. Every guru who sells spiritual experience is selling delusion. That makes most gurus not much more than carnie barkers selling a peep show that uses blowup dolls for dancers.
Many seekers do not take full responsibility for their own Liberation, but wait for one big, final spiritual experience which will catapult them fully into it. It is this search for the final liberating experience which gives rise to a rampant form of spiritual consumerism in which seekers go from one teacher to another, shopping for enlightenment as if shopping for sweets in a candy store. This spiritual promiscuity is rapidly turning the search for enlightenment into a cult of experience seekers. And, while many people indeed have powerful experiences, in most cases these do not lead to the profound transformation of the individual, which is the expression of enlightenment.
Thank God a few like Adyashanti exist who have a trunk full of the real thing to offer.

I will seek to translate for you:
"Enlightenment means the end of all division."
This means that coming to understand yourself as the Self means you know yourself as indivisible. However, the world goes on being the world, and critical thinking about it continues to be a valuable life skill.
"Spiritual people can be some of the most violent people you will ever meet."
No translation necessary.
"There is nothing more insidiously destructive to the attainment of liberation than self-doubt and cynicism."
That is self-doubt and cynicism about yourself.
"It is this blindness and denial of the presence of doubt and cynicism that makes the birth of a profound trust impossible."

"Maybe you will catch the fire of transmission."
Ok. He gets a couple of demerits for the transmission bullshit. But it's par for the course for most of these nonduality guys to boast being able to transmit. Sometimes they buy into their own hype a bit too much. But Adya ain't no Andrew Cohen, thank God.
Ok, Jody so now you built Adya up when are you going to tear him and his lineage holders down?
As long as he keeps the 'transmission' crap to a minimum, I don't see the need.
Saying enlightenment will make you special and give you magic powers and god-like abilities is one kind of crap.
Saying enlightenment doesn't make you special is another kind of crap.
Which one do you think stinks more?
someone who sells you that you can get enlightened is a blind man describing another blind man what seeing is.
Bitter lack of understanding noted.
While the individual can never be enlightened, the individual can be party to that knowledge known as jnana. S/he will remain the person they've always been, yet there will be an experiential reckoning of who they really are which remains as a constant presence of awareness, one that was always known, yet perhaps not always noticed. That's what enlightenment is.
