Dahn Yoga is the darling of local TV news investigative reporters looking to target something culty. The latest inquiry took place in Phoenix, AZ, by local ABC affiliate ABC15:
Steve Hassan is a cult expert with more than 30 years of experience. Hassan said that he has counseled more than 15 former Dahn Yoga followers.If the hard-hitting reporting keeps hitting this hard, Dahn Yoga is going to be 'circulating' right back to Korea and straight up the ass of Ilchee Lee, the mega-monster fraudster who started it all.
“They are basically taking people's minds and substituting the Dahn mind in its place,” Hassan said.
Hassan said Dahn starts with the power of suggestion.
Our producer went undercover at one of Dahn Yoga’s seven valley locations.
The initial meeting was an energy check, which seemed more like a health diagnosis.
The Dahn Yoga instructor told our undercover producer that her spine was crooked, and that her kidneys were tight.
“That means you're not circulating,” the instructor said.
The instructor suggested treatment for our ailments.
The instructor told our undercover producer she needed at least one year of Dahn Yoga, at a cost of more than $1600. The instructor said it was the only way to get rid of all our ailments.
“I do not believe people in Dahn are qualified to make medical evaluations,” Hassan said. “There is a wealth of psychological problems that this group has generated.”
Nice try with the college recruitment "Body and Brain" clubs, though.

My wife and I drove by our local Dahn Yoga center about 2 years ago and, barely glancing at it, I said, "It's a cult." At first she thought I was joking. I said, "No, seriously, give it 2 years and I guarantee there will be some freaky story that comes out about the leader -- maybe not sarin-in-the-subway freaky, but something."
"How do you know?" she asked.
While I'm no fan of the book Blink (long story), this was an "immediate hit" moment. I could just tell.
Actually, it was similar to what I felt when I met Shoko Asahara (5 years pre-subway) and, after I criticized him for being, well, totally full of it, he asked if I wanted to run his American centers. (I passed)

Dahn Yoga is a money grab and destructive cult. It's as clear as a summer morning in New Mexico. I'm only reporting what others have found.
With regards to my activity, folks need to begin to understand that self-realization does not make anyone any more special or more divine. Gurus use the myths about self-realization to prop themselves up on a pedestal that does nothing but foster ignorance rather than promote clarity. If I'm to take any karmic hits for that, it will still be worth it.
I am handicapped with an incurable bladder disease and am under supervision of several specialists. I decided to start doing stretching and yoga, gently and was given advise from a well renowned urologist at Cedar Sinai to try Dahn Yoga. I did it for several months, paying exhorbitant amounts of money and always being told I needed to take special classes to get well. They claimed they could heal my 16 yr old ailment. They did the physical exam, told me my circulation was bad and needed to continue Dahn Yoga. I signed up for their first class, spiritual awakening, it was intense, too intense for a permanently handicapped person,but they persisted. The leader that was flown in from Sedona, did the class in english and I felt that it was not helping me but I would leave in much more pain than I had going in. I was hounded from that moment on to take the other classes that were 'necessary' to get better. They even wanted me to do the Sedona retreat. The second class I took, was again with this great spiritual leader from Sedona,only this time he only spoke korean? I am not sure what language, but knowing that he spoke English, and that the class was very intensive physically, left everyone drained enough to believe his crap. this time he had to have a translator???? I had a bad feeling, was feeling more pain instead of less. I wasted over 2k on this crock of crap, and never went back even though i had paid for the year of yoga. This is a cult, this is all about the money, this is not about helping people, especially when they tell you that your physical illness that is real, is not and that you just need more Dahn to correct it. I felt many times pressured to pay for things, from the outfit that all wore to books and of course the 900 dollar special classes. I just walked out of the second one, the one where the "guru" needed an interpreter, when I had taken the first class from him without it. It seemed good at first, but beware, it is all about the money and the pressure is intense. Who doesn't want to get better after being sick for 16 years. If the stretches and exercises of daily class was all that it was, it could have been of use to me as i did get stronger from those exercises. As it was, I got a bad bad gut feeling at the second class when the exhaustion was what was required before the "real" work could begin. There are no ifs and or buts about this, it is a cult and it is all about the money. Beware, these people seemed so meek and so caring, but only until you paid and then it was high pressure sales for the "special classes" . Yoga is not supposed to be mind control of others, in my life I have taken yoga that has just been helping the body get stronger through stretching exercises and breathing. This is not the case with Dahn Yoga. After every daily session,we were all gathered in a circle to drink this warm tea and share our breakthroughs of that day. My breakthroughs were always my pain is worse. Don't believe these meek seeming folk, they only want your money. I would have never gone and paid over 1500 for the year of daily classes, if I wouldn't have been referred by one of the foremost authorities in Urology from Cedar Sinai. I trusted this urologist, trusted her credentials,and found that there are quack specialists that get sucked into these cults as well. Talk about getting help from a medical professional to help with a n incurable disease of the bladder, and just getting hurt more and paying to be hurt more. Insanity. Dahn Yoga is a cult, no two ways about it. If you have already found this out for yourself, good for you, if not, then think about why a class with 25 people in it for one day at a local facility should cost 900 bucks each. I guess that unnecessary translator was expensive? LOL don't be fooled, and anyone from any walk of life can be fooled by them. They called me for months after I walked out of the second class angry, and i never returned their calls, but they kept trying to reel me back in, to get more money.
I've been working as a hairdresser for the past 10 years. Every single day, I would wake up with pains all over my body. (my joints, shoulder,back, neck, fingers etc... I used to see a physical therapist once a week and used to get a deep tissue message 2 times a month. They were good for just that day.(cost me around $400 every months.) My pain got worse to a point where I had to quit my job that I loved!(And I had to cancel my gym membership too.)Well.driving by one day, I found Dahn center WHICH COMPLETLY CHANGED MY LIFE NOW! I went in there and signed up for 3 months membership for $390 . After working out for 3 weeks, I lost 5 pounds.Another 2 weeks later I lost 3 lbs more! It's been about 6 weeks and total I lost 9 pounds. Most important! The pain on my wrist, shoulder blade, and my knees totally disappeared And until now I can't believe! I don't care what some of the negative people say about Dahn yoga, since I got somuch benefit from their exercises, I will continue as long as I have this job. Thanks to Dahn yoga! Thanks for changing my life! =)
