Love Guru To Bruise Hindus

File under: The Siddhi of PR

Falling right into their hands like little kids playing marbles with the big kids, overly-sensitive Hindu leaders are providing millions of dollars worth of promotion for the Paramount Studios summer blockbuster, Mike Myer's The Love Guru:
"If the trailer is an indicator of the content of the movie...then we feel that this movie is most likely to hurt the sentiments of seekers from various spiritual paths...it will hurt the religious sentiments of the millions of Hindus worldwide, who hold the 'Guru-disciple' relationship as sacred...we are supporting Rajan Zed's protest against the denigration...", Shinde stressed in this communiqué and added, "Poking fun is one thing, but if it creates a sense of belittling other's faith, then it is wrong."
And every "communiqué" like this will just drop more money into the producers' bank account. Like it or not, The Love Guru is coming soon to a theatre near you. We predict a huge increase in interest in the Hindu faith after this, and of gurus in particular. Some of the big-time satsangs may even see a Love Guru effect in increased attendance, and all despite the efforts of a bunch of kill-joys who have been riding on the waaaaaaaaaaahmbulance over it the last few months.

Sacred relationships?? So are parent-child, husband-wife, priest-parishioner relationships.

Our society is too polite or too cowardly to look into the exploitation and abuse in these so-called sacred relationships, the victim is often made to feel shame because it ain't suppose to happen.

True compassionate enlightened gurus who have their disciples welfare at heart are very few. Most big time gurus exploit their followers for self-glorification and material gains. Maharshit of TM, SSRS of AoL, Sai Baba, Shit Chimoy are a few ready exemples.

For me personally, one of the best ways to predict whether I'll find a spiritual group worthwhile is the level of humor. When people are sincere in their inquiry, only then is it possible to see how funny it is to claim that Truth can be captured by a mere belief-system.

Part of the reason I've been fond of the Zen tradition is the way the teaching is passed down through koans. It may take a while to fully appreciate it... but fundamentally, a koan is very very much like a joke.

you can say that again , so i think I will

you would think, in spiritual evolvement an open mind would be essential, and i know for me humor is healing, so thanks for reminding me to go to you- tube and check out Guru Pitka, i think he's the only guru i really like.
So often spiritual practices and tradition are rooted in limiting the senses, focusing the mind etc, but a lot can be lost with this as well, i.e. creativity and joy.
i really think the Pitka joke is only making fun of the grossest offenders and distorters of the Hindu tradition and they are worthy of that ridicule.
Go check out Guru Pitka's mini sutras over at you-tube and know that truth is everywhere. Marishka Hargitay!!!

Heheheh -- oh, it's going to be fun seeing "The Love Guru" slaughter quite a few sacred cows -- I'll be sure to catch this one in the theatres!

Excellent stuff. Do write more about that biggest con artist out there, Sri Sri Ravi Ass. He's now been given a share of some company for manufacturing something. No idea what the details are, but the bottom line is he's raking in more money. No wonder he's smiling that idiot smile of his a lot more.

I don't know about manufacturing, but one of the issues he most readily finds time to discuss these days is building up the AoL related software company Sumeru into the next Infosys and Wipro. But not to worry, it is all done with charity in mind and to demonstrate how prosperity manifests onto the material plane for those who evolve spiritually.

This is a bit like what happened with the Mel Gibson movie about Christ. No complaints from the Italians being presented as drooling dogs but the poor Jews made so much money for Mel that he can afford to build his own church.
