Sometimes, when I read these comments and the responses and the endless debates (and I admit, I enjoy a verbal duel as much as you, no doubt do) I wonder why so much intellectual energy is being spent on the central messages of this blog: That several charlatans exist; and that a self-realized person is not a "better" human being than one who is not.
If those tenets were so patently obvious to everyone, then there would be little debate, and very little discussion.
We would not for example have such intense discussion, if this was a blog devoted to the fact that the earth revolves around the sun. You would not be interested if Jody put up a story everyday with pictures proving that the earth revolves, or another scandal that further disproves that the earth is flat.
In addition, if you believe completely in these tenets, then why waste the time and energy trying to convince those who would never be convinced?
You, Jody, would not find it motivating to post and to comment, unless there was a degree, however slight and subtle, of confusion,possibly disillusionment, doubt, anger, or narcissistic unrest.

Between Jody and the commenters, there are dozens or hundreds of people who have contributed their viewpoints to the blog. Everyone has their own perspective, so you can't declare that the blog has a "central message." You can share the particular message that you get, that's all.
There are likely others like me who at some point projected the highest truth out onto an authority: a guru, teacher, scripture, or dogma embraced by a group. When I see the mistakes and delusions of various teachers, etc, and examine how the flim flam operates, it's also an examination of my own mind, how I've sometimes become attached to such outer authorities, and how I might avoid doing so more meticulously in the present and future.
To see that Swami Schmuckananda is a bullshitter may be a trivial matter (though even that has entertainment value). But it's connected to the question: if the fundamental truth isn't held by authorities like Schmuckananda, then what is truth? I don't find that inquiry to be trivial.

You appear to be planning on promoting yourself as a space-daddy at some point, making this blog and the commenters here an obstacle. So you attempt a half-assed attack in the defense (and also perhaps denial) of your own ambitions as guru.
I am disillusioned by the state of spiritual culture and its fascination with superstitious nonsense. I have some anger over it as well, as I was once beholden to the same nonsense until I saw through it. I admittedly have some narcissistic traits and I've been through a few periods of moderate inflation in my life. Whatever.
You can find a million faults in me as I'm not very good at hiding them. But that doesn't change the fact that space-daddy gurus are on an ego-trip of their own, or the fact (as far as I'm concerned) that folks need this to be pointed out to them, over and over and over again.
You don't have to read it, Shamy. The fact that you are reading indicates to me that you have your own guilt and reservations. Maybe you need to take a good look at that the next time you try to lay into some of us around here.

I completely agree with you. I do have reservations. I have reservations about the tendency for the limited ego to assert itself when one becomes self-realized. I have reservations about us being guilty of the very things we deride here. If we are against self-aggrandizement and pomposity, and inflation, then why don't we model some other behavior in defense of our own beliefs. (And despite the intellectual superiority and necessity of your irreverent attitude, I think you will agree with me that the perspective that all these guru guys are self-inflated ass-clowns is only one reality. The belief (or knowledge) that some guy in saffron robes is God, or the son of God is as "real" as the belief (or knowledge) that he is an ass clown .(I just saw this old movie called "Office Space" no doubt you have all seen it - and I picked up the choice epithet from the movie.)

You have to read Srimad Bhagavatham (not written by sophists and agenda bearers;) ) In tandem with Sri. Kanchi Paramacharya 's 7 Volumes (Voice of God) and set your own cerebral atoms at work too.
A word of caution about translations in general. As John Milton captures it brilliantly "...the life blood "( not sure about the exact quote , sorry, am kind of dredging up my memory) of the original text somehow gets diluted...you know!

Not likely! In addition to being called a racist, I also remember being told how ignorant I was about the treatment of servants in India. Like LBJ said to the Kennedys, we don't have servants here, we have employees. Having been to India and having Indian friends and having seen how servants are treated there, I don't think I was far off the mark.
