Love Guru Haterade Shines Light On Hindu Right

File under: The Siddhi of PR

Aside from the fact they are doing the work of ten ad agencies, the Hindu outcry against the release of The Love Guru is also bringing a light to bear on India's shameful secret, its racist/supremacist Hindu right:
These groups don't just campaign against what they see as sacrilegious portraits of Hindu culture in the Western media. They also actively organize and celebrate book burnings, crusades against inter-faith marriage, riots and vandalism over what they regard as impious artistic representations, and constantly work to inflame Muslim-Hindu relations in India.
Say hi to Amma's children in India.

The hysteria reaches a fevered-pitch with this hilarious doctrine about the sins about to be incurred by millions all over the world:

ActDemeritMeans
Making the movie, ‘The Love Guru’30 units2nd region of Hell for 1000 years
Watching it for entertainment without knowing the spiritual science/significance2 unitsNether region (Bhuvaloka) for 100 yrs
Watching it for entertainment even after knowing the spiritual science/significance5 units1st region of Hell for 100 yrs
Being a seeker of God/on the spiritual path, knowing about the Movie, but doing nothing to stop it5 units1st region of Hell for 100 yrs

These comedic karmic calculations aside, a Love Guru bump is coming to Hinduism and Vedic-based spirituality in the West. We're looking forward to the improvements it's sure to bring.

Stop fulminating against Hindus. A fundamentalist hindu is a contradiction in terms. Some deluded creatures may talk of sin etc. But these are the influence of Christists or the other religion originating from the Middle East. And please tone down your hatred of SSRS. He may not be perfect but he is a great soul and deserves respect at least! As far as you are concerned, you are just another white who has found his calling in putting down the one faith that does not operate out of a manual. All the bees in your bonnet are showing. When did you last talk of the paedophile catholic priests or similar guys not belonging to the Hindu faith? Never I am sure. Pleaase stop throwing stones out of your glass house.

Funny how everything great and glorious about India and its culture is because of how special the high born Indians are and everything that stinks like shit is the fault of "whites", christians, the Brits or other invaders. Grow up!

some very funny comments on the Love Guru bruhaha over at Sepia Mutiny Blog

p.s. Jody I also found this on Sepia Mutiny;

"hope people realize someday that Kalpen Modi's mother is Indian politician Narendra Modi's sister.

So technically Kal Penn is N.Modi's nephew and that is interesting."

Kalpen Modi is apparently Kal Penn of Harold and Kumar fame. i guess he can't help who he's, related to , or can he? you know reincarnation and all...is that why he calls himself Penn and not Modi?? yes it is interesting.
Kal also makes another appearance on this Blog in a review of a lecture he gave at Penn (!) State on Racial stereo- typing in Hollywood. he admits to playing into that game by playing a racial stereo- type himself (Kumar), but that it's part of the business. anyway interesting , wonder what he thinks of Love Guru, having played broad inane comedy himself. Is he being a bit disingenuous? Hey it's OK for me I'm brown? maybe it's a more complicated question for him.

Note for the first anonymous commenter: I think that Jody's deep respect for and appreciation of Vedanta is *precisely* why he is so angry at the mess that the guru circuit makes of that tradition. How is it possible that human beings can take such a universalist, non-dogmatist, inclusive tradition, and turn it into a tool of such monstrous abuse? Yet this is clearly what plenty of human beings are doing. As a lover of Vedanta, Jody is wounded, as all lovers of Vedanta ought to be, by this state of affairs. What a shame that the very tradition that gave birth to such sages as Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ramana Maharishi, Sri Aurobindo, the Mother, Anandamayi Ma, can be misused in this way!

It is *not* enough to say one adheres to such a profound and universal tradition. One has to *live* it, with full integrity. To not do so is a betrayal of that tradition no matter how many times one kicks and screams and yells that it's such a profound tradition. And that means that at some point one also has to call others on *their* lack of integrity.

As a lover of Vedanta myself, I am often shocked at the incredible lack of common sense among people parading as gurus, as well as among their naive disciples. Surely if the disciples had really studied Vedanta they wouldn't be falling for this nonsense. After all, the secret of finding an authentic teacher is simple -- be an authentic student, ask questions always, never let yourself think that the inquiry is over.

Howdy, Ned. I do solemnly agree with you on Jody and all other points. The trouble is that these bad guys who have themselves exposed here rather than the reverse make a cowboy wonder if there ever was a good clean tradition of teachers or if we just don't know the true low down on these fellows and fellas you mention! Never have bee sure of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother for one! Folks useed to believe it was only the "exported gurus" who ought to be bull whipped but now we know there's plenty who mainly stays in India that aint fit to shoot! The doubt comes up like a fume from a wet drain field that maybe all of them are nut to be trusted! Hell, even Jesus Christ hung out with whores!

Hi Chuck!

Well, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother are relatively unknown even in India itself -- most people only know of Sri Aurobindo as Aurobindo Ghose, the freedom fighter against the British. You can have a look at my blog if you want to know more about him and his spiritual co-worker the Mother -- the Mother was actually not Indian, but a French woman of Jewish descent named Mirra Alfassa. Between the two of them they arrived at what for me is arguably the greatest East-West spiritual synthesis ever conceived -- but I'm admittedly biased there! ;-)

Just as a sidebar, Sri Aurobindo did come to the West -- he studied at Cambridge University in fact. However, that was before he had had any spiritual attainments (he and Mirra were both raised atheists).

Anyhow I agree with the gist of what you're saying -- and obviously the most realized teachers are precisely the ones that don't promote themselves. Real spiritual geniuses are too busy perfecting themselves to care about going on well-publicized world tours or whatever.
