Swami Ramdon't
File under: The Siddhi of PR
Swami Ramdev was in Anaheim, California, this week, bumming the kids out:
He told his Indian-American audience dealing constantly with pizzas, hamburgers and coke how awful it was for the body. He told the children, who he had invited free on the last day of the camp, that soda could be used to clean toilets as it was that potent. Cooking meat at home, he said, was akin to creating a crematory at home.Ramdev doesn't want the kids drinking Coke, but they're welcome to as much of his Kool-Aid as they can get down their throats without drowning.

That's Ramdev's way and if you don't like it tough luck! Bernard Shaw said he was vegetarian because he did not want his body to become a graveyard for animals. Ramdev merely stated his beliefs and if some kids turn vege, good for them. That does not mean that colas are substituted by Kool Aid!
Does Ma Kali ask you to eat meat Jodi?
Ramdev would only talk against pizzas and cola. Have you ever heard him talking about sharia and islam where they advocate stoning and amputation for petty thefts ? As he has lots of muslim 'devotees or followers'.
On one of his workshops , almost all the muslim followers came out with mandatory expressions of 'thank you Swamijis' but never forgot to mention " whatever you taught, we already have everything in our namaz routines ".
ssrs's ' devotee' yasin malik revealed his jihadist colours in the recent Amarnath Yatra of Hindu Pilgrims.
If kriyas or hatha yoga postures could metamorphose people into angels , Kurukshetra(Mahabharatham) War would never have taken place.
Baba Ramdev doesn't claim to be God, nor do his followers elevate him to extra divine status, even in India. He is known and loved only as a son-of-the-soil yogi. So what if he is driven by his passion? Why exactly is he a target of ridicule on your blog?
Now this is not to say that mass yoga camps are really bringing about radical transformation, and nor is he a bonafide authority on Ayurved, but hey, at least the man is trying. Lazy, unfit, apathetic people are being exhorted to make better choices. Hardly Kool Aid.
Stale coke is good for cleaning toilets. That much I know. I don't know about other sodas.
Ma NEVER has to ask for anything.
Why exactly is he a target of ridicule on your blog?
Because he's putting himself out there in a way that warrants comment, imo. The very act of promoting yourself as a public guru is evidence you aren't really a very good one.

On the contrary, it sounds like you've already had your fill.
I saw Ramdev last week give a talk on pranayama. It was interesting, informative and fun. He never once claimed to be God incarnate or anything like that at all. In fact his attitude was that he's no different than you, me or anybody else.

That's pretty lame and fallacious logic. He's teaching hatha yoga, not out initiating masses into atma jnana.
You always trot out the line that your blog focuses on critiquing godlier-than-thou Gurus. Why not just admit, "if they look easy game, I lampoon 'em".
On the contrary, it sounds like you've already had your fill.
Nice try, but Hatha yoga or pranayama has never been my cup of tea. But if this man's public campaign could help fight the fat of the land, then I say more power to him.

He's presented as a guru by the press, and he certainly appears to be interested in getting press. How do you think the press learns that he's on a visit somewhere? It's called a press release. That brings him into the sights here.

His histrionics against what for many is a perfectly serviceable diet (pizza and coke a few times a week) deserves a good wacking.

He (and practically most of those 'gurus') are doing nothing but reinventing the wheel. That person is yet to be born who can better Aadi Shankarar's Sadhana Panchakam .And Auvvaiyaar's sage gems of wisdom. And 'Aacharakkovai'.And so on.Our grandparents offered all this wisdom to us for free without gallivanting around with mock humility.
Xenophobic hindutvavadis relish his pillorying of pizzas. The indigenous samosas , oil sodden kachoris and sweets that we all wolf down ( particularly during festivals as if our Maker asked us to do so)have always been contributing to a host of ailments.I am not launching on pollution of water and air.

what you say is true. all of the priests at the local temple have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and, more than half of them have diabetes. One told me that it was one of the "hazards" of the job...eating all of the rich, ghee filled, sugary and fried foods after puja. can't insult any of the ladies who are cooking so must eat. (but it sure tastes good!!!)
seen to mucho
