MUM Dining Hall Killer Declared Insane

File under: Deranged Devotees

Paring knife-wielding killer Shuvender Sem has been declared insane by both the prosecution and defense at his murder trial this week. Levi Butler, a Maharishi University of Management student, was killed by Sen in a dining hall at the university last March.

Our prediction of a lawsuit by the Butlers is looking more likely:
The murder also angered Butler's family and friends, who said the university should have reported to police an attack earlier that day in which Sem stabbed a classmate in the cheek with a ballpoint pen.
Were it not for the fact that Sen was hospitalized numerous times as a paranoid schizophrenic before he came to MUM, the folks at anti-TM org Trancenet would still be doing back flips. They published a report a number of years ago they use to make their case that people who practice TM™ are more likely to go insane. [Ed.note: The report seemed a bit skewed to us. Imagine fundamentalist Christians "objectively" investigating same-sex marriage.]

All these bad vibes must be seeping into the Maharishi's vedic love pod. We imagine him upping the frolic quotient as a counter measure to maintain the 60s supergroupie idyll he's got going there. But it's a lot more expensive than it was in the 60s, when all that kids wanted was a safe place to be high while they paid lip service to the Maharishi's teachings. Today kids expect iPods, GameBoys and various flavors of bling for their time as groupies. They'll indulge the Maharishi for tchotchkes, cause they sure aren't there for the wisdom. That's what Jay-Z and 50 Cent are for—dawg!

Dear Tom.

I will not be publishing any of your comments. You are free to continue to make them, but until they become significantly more civil, there will be no further discussion.

Jody. On the comment before this one you were doing well, I thought we could have a friendly dialog about the subject. But on this thes one your not doing so well. What could be more uncivil than slandering and degrading peoples spiritual masters and the devotees ? ! Im obviously defending the real ones and their devotees as vehemently as your are attacking them ! If your going to slander and attack them then you should expect that people will defend them and some people as forcefully as you attack them ! If you cant handle that then you shouldnt have a blog where you slander and attack them ! I will always defend the real ones and so will many other people ! And you should expect that people with fiery qualities who are as much or more about appreciating and defending them as you are being about attacking and slandering them are going to be very vehement and forceful about it ! Especially when you sink so low that you use a terrible tragedy like what happened in Fairfield, IA to try to defame and slander a Great Master or anyone for that matter ! More in next comment about spiritual masters.

Tom, we have very different ideas about commerical spirituality and its leaders. There's not much more to say than that. Neither of us is likely to convince the other, and so, we should just leave it at that. I feel no imperative to defend my ideas outside of what I've already expressed on the pages of this blog. If you don't like what you read, I understand, but I don't feel obligated to give you a forum beyond what I've already allowed. I honestly wish you well in your life. --jody.
