A Note About The Comments

File under: Administration

Basically, here we are king. We reserve the right to reject or delete comments for whatever reason we feel like. This is not an open forum, it's a place where we express our opinion about gurus and the state of spiritual culture as we see it.

One can see by reading the comments on these posts that we have no problem brooking different views. We also enjoy a good insult as much as the next person who doesn't take himself too seriously. However, we expect to be entertained while being insulted. If it's not funny to us, it's not going up.

What we won't allow is sycophants and the brainwashed to bray about whatever spiritual leader they feel we've slighted. We also don't like suspiciously effusive praise. We're just some asshole with opinions about gurus and spiritual culture based on our reading of Vedanta. We don't expect everyone to agree, but we don't feel mandated to publish comments by those who don't... or do.

I read this blog via google reader, even then I most skim it as I could care less about more of these gurus. I just wanted to say I enjoy how you hold yourself(s) here.

How do I understand the "we" in the original post? Is there a bunch of people moderating the discussion or is it just Jody using the royal "we" in place of "I"?

It's just me most of the time. It's a particular blogging style I've adopted, although at times I've asked others to contribute, so occasionally the "we" refers to more than just myself.

Jody ! While im proud and relieved to set up base in India and enjoy its endless freedom and all its supermost comforts,
I have also suffered to sustain my sanity amidst the spiritual sycophants who influence my life on a daily basis. My parents, siblings, neighbors, friends, and the mysterious bunch of uncles and aunts who always felt the pressure to keep me on the 'right' track.

I had been annoyed a bit at the start when i just dropped in here, but i figured soon for myself, what you are really upto. I may still have certain reservations about you, but i find me in the domain of sanity these days. Its like coming home for me everytime I open your blog.

I find it little odd and bashful for making it sound like a testimony. But then, hey, what the fuck, I simply love to be around here. I have fought the sycophants alone and very helplessly. But I'm not alone anymore. The freedom to be just myself and comment here makes this a very special space in my life.

Thanks Jody for your blog. I almost rediscovered myself here.
A small but sure streak of hope in my search of the ultimate.

This is sometimes called the 'editorial we', as opposed to the 'royal we'.

However, in line with 'Here, we are king', I like to hope it has an aspect of the Royal we too. :) It's a nice new twist on Queen Victoria -- insult us you may, but if we are not amused you will not be posted.

Go Jody! Keep a quality King's court!

Thanks Jody for your blog.

You're welcome, SSAO. I'm glad you're here as well, for my own benefit and also that of Chuck and the other regular comment-leavers, who I am proud to have as readers and friends.

~~~ Talk about chuck. Yes, he has been my great influence besides you, in the past few months. These days i feel that, i even think and write like chuck.
Its crazy but im lovin' it. He has rubbed off on me quite a bit. Hopefully its not his doublewide but the hilarious and childlike mockery that really rubbed.
It is chuck who splashes a bit of color to this otherwise somewhat dull and fundamentalist looking blog with all the fanatic islamic green and monotonous layout. I even miss your photoshopped relief images of our most revered space mommas and poppas. !!!
Once again, Jody and semblance has touched my heart. I have to run out to the broke down shed I call a barn and snivel with my mule. He's told several times that nobody likes to see a fat man in overalls cry!
Semblance I almost forgot to tell you the solution to all your problems regarding family. This worked well for me and I only had to do it once! After having planted Chuck JR in my future wife (which I also only had to do once), I found not only her red necked family after my life but mine as well! We were the first in our families to finish highschool much less go to college. Momma had her sights on me being a large animal vetrinarian. Her's wanted the girl to teach kindergarden. Long story short, nobody was much pleased unless you count my 2 and a half minutes of pre marital bliss that has pretty much had to last me a lifetime! After the wedding came the showdown. Dads and uncles and cousins once removed in front of the single wide we had at the time. I knew something had to happen to "blow the lid off of things", as Louis L'Amore likes to put it. So I come out of the trailer with my long barreled 10 gauge shotgun with the double hammers, wearing nothing but a jock strap. This is as true a story as I have told! I started looking up at the sky like I was seeing invisable ducks. I shouted "Come on you feathered bastards!" and fired off both barrels. The conjoined family members parted and separated and have been of no further trouble to yours truly!
SaO, I can relate to that! fortunately I don't to live near my sychophantic family. If I did, i am sure I might already be in the loony bin. Distance is the key, for me atleast. Doing good telephone is the trick.
Btw, i haven't been posting lately cause I have a lot of work to get done that hasn't gotten done and am accumulating all sorts of weird muscle pains from sitting in front of the computer all day.
In any case, I have found this blog to be a sanctuary of sorts, as well. Jody, you have formed an interesting 'culture' in his blog.
~~~~ Chuck is a fabulist and thats the best and the worst thing about him. He weaves such unbeleivable stuff all the time in his mind. He psyches hisself and you and rest of us here at Gp with his incredible and nonsensical story telling. Its actually a major spiritual trait which we notice with space daddies usually abuse to psyche themselves with such ridiculous notions and make others beleive it too !

So what's with Chuck? He is presently harmless and can prattle this way till he gets down to that most aspired temple goddess job someday.

~~~~ May be durga. But imagine living in a place, where you are surrounded by thick of action churned out by Kracki, She she, Ammachee, Kanchi Jayandra, Nityananda(the 29 year old paramahans), Paul Dinakaran (Jesus Calls Ministries),Sly Baba, jaggi, etc -just to name a few, not in that same sequence though- within a radius of 500 miles and imagine the kind of impact it has on your life? In addition, The Ramana, Jkrishnamurti, UGK, who have such contradicting influence within the same radius, to spice up the confusion ?
I am living in the vortex of paradoxical spirituality and the telephone call technique does not help when the neighborhood village chief drops in to request my farmhouse for a weeklong time to
be used for their occluding guru ??
I would not complain much these days because i have decided to break free from all this and try to understand these gurus and their faithful millions as just part of this same creation and i need not have to suffer or struggle anymore !!!
It helps me a lot traveling everytime outside this vortex or the eye of occlusion, from where i can see the paradox more objectively and keep my sanity intact...
SSaO, I didn't realize you live in such close proximity to the subjects of this blog! Sounds interesting, but I can see how it would drive you crazy. It is hard to live in a place of such extremes. Maybe you should come and hang out with Chuck and I somewhere in the thickets between dime box and austin. I encourage chuck to go to enchanted rock instead of the thicket next time, where there are more rocks, less critters, and a good view of the surrounding countryside.
Betty, the truth is it's not me who does the talkin here, it's my mule. Da Free Jack ducktapes and I am merely the gentle scribe who takes down His words. The facts however are true and verifriable. Just ask the mule!
I know how you feel good buddy. Dime Box is the same sort of place. We got more preachers per square mile than we got loose women. Never you worry tho, 2012 is nearly here and there's bound to be ufo lift off soon. According to Momma, Chuck JR is a alien but as for me with all this weight, I'm having more and more trouble achieving lift off of any kind. Just gettin out of bed takes 15 minutes of rockin into position, gettin the knees up, balancing over the knees and then up. By that time I’m tired again and must lay back down.
If it wasn't for my mule I'd be lost!
~~~ Chuck, I think you need a course on 'Art Of Dieng'. If i ever become a fauxru myelf, then I would call my sangha as the AOD that would teach people to die satisfactorily without bits and pieces left behind. The way you delay your death tells, you have been quite indecisive while you lived. Why else you would want a convenience store for making baby? How long would you drag this double wide, chuck? Think of all the wine flowin' in da heavens !!!

Now you're talkin, podna! When you get this copyrighted can I get the East Texas franchise? There's more than a few around here wantin to die and we can help em out!

Re the convienece store-somewhat-less-than-immaculate-conception, I must have been unconsciously tryin to incorporate into my own self the line from that Patsy Kline song...

"In the morning her eyes open like convenience stores for men who don't have what it takes..."

...which brings me back to how lucky I am to still have my mule!

Chuck, not sure why your psychics are telling you to give me the silent treatment, but good luck with you mule, and your writing. I still think you should dedicate yourself to being a guru western writer. And good luck with your family Semblance!
I'll be off of this blog for awhile. Thanks for the company.

durga,

you'd think that me bein bald and weighin over 300 pounds would be enough to curdle those kind of fears permanently but I guess since her hair is also patchy and she's got to weigh 200 herself, it ain't enough. Also turns out that her not bein a native E Texan, she also don't think that bein called "horse faced" is a compliment!

Chuck, though this has nothing to do with the subject of this post, I meant to tell you that I was also called horse faced once, by my best friend when I was in 7th grade. As for actual horses, my grandfather had some back before I was born, and lots of cows. Those days are over, though, and my mom kind of lives like Blanche Dubois from A Streetcar named Desire, without the drinking.
And I noticed you like the Kinky F. He's a cool dude. saw him on TV not long ago protecting horses from being slaughtered and sent to European restaurants. Apparently he has a little cat and dog farm too in Kerrville. I think I voted for him for governor, can't remember.

Kinky Friedman is the man even tho suffering from foot in mouth disease like semblance does around here, I guess. Writes a decent detective book as well, I have heard. Couldn't say for sure cause I only read westerns! Durga if you are horse faced I'm sure it's in the East Texas way of seeing that!
