Sri Sri Travels With Foot In Mouth

File under: Gurubusting and The Siddhi of PR

Fresh from comparing Mahatma Gandhi to a gun-running movie star in prison, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has gone to West Bengal to stick his nose in the business of Nandigram, where the local government has blessed large petrochemical companies with the right to pollute the local villages. When the villagers tried to keep the marauding chem companies out, a police massacre ensued. Now Sri Sri wants to go "fix" the situation, but he's not sure how welcome he'll be:
[Sri Sri], however, expressed doubt whether the government of the Left-ruled State would take help from a spiritual personality.
That's because it's as clear as the air above Annapurna that Sri Sri's true intention is self-aggrandizement and more fame for his name. Any help the villagers end up with would be strictly a by-product, if in fact it would be any help at all.

Again the ignorant Americans cooking up a hotch-potch.Nandigram is a village sold for peanuts to the Indian company Tata Group for a car plant without taking the villagers' assent.Incidentally the stae of West Bengal where Nandigram lies is being ruled by the Communists since 1968 & they haven't let any other party win the elections.Usually it so happens that the "people" kill the opposition leaders who "dare" to oppose the "people's regime" in West Bengal (like in all Commie states). When people of Nandigram protested against the Tata handover & barricaded the village to prevent the police from entering & evacuating them, the CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) cadres stormed the village & "recaptured" it resulting in a lot of terrified & dead people.Sri Sri did well to go there. His going there helped to keep the issue in the limelight longer than it would have been-considering the fact that most journalists in India are Communists or Communist syampathisers. But since the owners of the biggest media houses in India are long time Sri Sri devotees so the media had to give some airtime to him.
