Gak!

FIle under: Amma All-Over-The-Planet, Satscams and The Siddhi of PR

Amma's miracle-mongering department produces a reenactment of a supposed miracle purported to have occurred in 1975, when she allegedly turned water into pudding.

Please excuse us while we blow chunks all over our pretty iMac...

Even more miraculous is turning a hug and some lies about self realization into a multi billion dollar empire.

The more I look into the Amma organization with an open mind, the more I start to notice things. It gets thicker and thicker, basically.

I was noticing on another board there is an argument between Catholics and Amma devotees. This argument sprung up as a result of an article that California Catholic Daily published about Amma. Apparently, devotees are infiltrating the board touting Amma's divinity and trying to convince the Catholics that she is Christ. While reading some of their comments, I was struck by the almost violent way in which they espouse how wonderful and saintly Amma is. (for the full article and to read the arguments go here: http://www.calcatholic.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?id=c04124df-3d62-47d6-90fc-3c0d20eb2022)

In pondering Ammachi's saintly-ness, I was confronted by several facts and observations:

1. She only visits places that can afford to host her. That means paying for her flight from wherever she is, accommodations, donated hotel rooms for all retreats, food, flowers and any other incidental you can imagine.

If her stated desire is to comfort the suffering and poor, then why would this always be the case? Why isn't she in Africa, Mexico or places in the states like New Orleans and the Bronx? Why is it that devotees have this inaccurate view of selflessness and what it means to help the truly downtrodden? Basically it seems that all of the funds from the affluent West just get thrown on a few key charities that she has going on in India? What about the rest of the money? In light of the recent articles regarding ties to RSS, it seems pretty appropriate considering the nationalist fascism that these people foam at the mouth about.

2. If you notice the places that she visits in the United States, they are the richest cities in the US. The tour stops are:
Seattle
Bay Area
Los Angeles
New Mexico
Dallas
Iowa
Chicago
Washington DC
New York
Boston

Which again leads to the observation that her hugs are for those who can afford them. She is comforting the sorrowful, suffering, rich. Why make bones about this? Why not just admit that she is comforting the affluent West and the throngs of devotees in India? Where do her followers get the idea that she is somehow doing a tremendous service to ailing humanity by hugging? Why isn't she helping the poor and consoling the suffering in the world?

A shop selling Ammachi dolls, Cd's, DVD's and jewelry wouldn't fly to well in a village in South Africa. Maybe that's why.

Her hospitals and schools are not even free. There are some orphanages and there were homes built for tsunami victims and that's great...but she has to do something. Those projects must amount to 10 percent of all of the money coming in. So where is the other 90% of the money going?

Some math, just for fun. I'll stick to the low end of things just to be fair.

If in every US city there are 1000 retreat participants paying appx. $300 each, that's 300 G's right there just on the retreat. Add an extra 500 grand for all of the food and items purchased during the public programs and Devi Bhava. Round it all off and you can figure they rake in about one million dollars per tour stop in each US city, and that's being conservative.

That's 10 million dollars for one US tour. Clear.

Amma donated $1 million dollars to the US for Hurrican Katrina. (However she won't be visiting New Orleans to console those people because they don't have the loot to host her).

Add to this all of the tuition received for all of the colleges, all of the payment for treatment in the hospitals, donations from all over the world, orders coming in from the "amma shop", magazine subscriptions, television subscriptions, rent in the ashram, property bought in the ashram, and you can see that Amma's organization is quite possibly making a ZILLION DOLLARS per year.

The question that should be baffling everyone right now is where on earth is all of this money going?

You guys just don't get it, She is the Christ.

The Amma devotees know what they are talking about and the Catholics are unaware of Ammas Divinity and Christliness. But we are well aware of it. It is impossible not to see it.

If you notice the places that she visits in the United States, they are the richest cities in the US.

Then why does she visit the poorest cities in India, the tsunami struck areas of Sri Lanka, and is now going to Santiago, Chile, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and will soon visit places in Africa, and other cities in Asia.

Do your research before making profoundly dumb statements like Why isn't she helping the poor and consoling the suffering in the world?

Because that is what she IS doing and you AREN'T doing.

I hate these blogs becuase there is no substantiated evidence in all this hot are you A'HOLES are blowing.

It just discredits and undermines your claims.

This is called massive Kool-Aid poisoning. Obviously a hopeless case. May God in heaven help you. You need it much more than most.

The claim I am making is that Amma is a right wing Hindu nazi supporter who sends goons to do her dirty work. Go ahead and discredit that.

Yes. Because those place finally dredged up the loot to host her.

Jody, here is the best discussion on Amma that I've found. This site takes FOREVER to load, but the debate has literally been going on for years now! Pay particular attention to the posts of "Ingersoll Junior". I am the anonymous poster who posted about the RSS and its Amma ties. Thank you for running with this story! You are seriously breaking a US press blackout by doing this!

Big deal, I can turn water into pudding anytime. Just hand me a packet of My-T-Fine. Sprinkle and stir, presto! I'll even do it with Krishna Das playing in the background, if it turns you on.

Shouldn't they put a disclaimer at the bottom? "This is a re-enactment. We're just having actors playing make-believe here. It's not like we're filming something that's happening for real."

Y'know, like those weight-loss commercials with the "results not typical" at the bottom of the screen? People ought to be able to watch videos like this, and still be warned... "If you're not a professional, don't try believing in this bullshit at home."

Yes, to re-enact such a scene is indeed unhealthy, it is a shame on the mystic tradition of India. And not saying that it is a drama is worse. Whoever did it, for whatever reasons, ought to remember that Nature takes note.
